exhausted from work

You come home after a long day at work. You finished dinner and want to relax. Turn off the lights. And light some scented candles. Sit down in your favorite chair. And let the days stress, strain, and anxiety wash away as you melt into your chair.

What if there was a way you could schedule your lighting to set the same ambiance?

Changing the light colors for any room in your home.
So what is the color changing light bulb choice for modern home accessories?
You have a choice you know, but first I would like to share with you some considerations when choosing your new light bulbs.

New York City Lights

Back in May 2015, the New York City Department of Transportation decided to replace 250,000 street lights. Changing the old lamps to LED lights. The reasoning behind this task was to save energy, money and time.

Led lights have a long life, and the New York City Dept. of Transportation would realize an 80 percent energy efficiency as soon as the lamps became energized.

The LEDs would last approximately 15 years saving maintenance costs. Everything seems to go according to plan. Then after a short period, the phone calls started to begin.

The result was a stream of complaints from residents in the five burrows. The main issue was the intensity of the new lamps. The color temperature of the light bulbs ranged from 4000K to 5000K CT.

What CT refers the color temperature or brightness of the light emitted from the lamp. According to the American Medical Association color temperatures affect human health.

The AMA warns that using this level of bright lighting effects eyesight and causes sleep deprivation. It is the amount of blue light emitted from LEDs that create these issues. The 150 filed complaints with the Department of Transportation only reinforced the findings of the AMA.

So the New York Department of Transportation replaced the previously installed LED lights with a dimmer bulb. Stepping down the LEDs color temperature to 3000K- 4000k replacing the 78-watt LED light bulb with a 64-watt LED light bulb. The move satisfied the complaining residents and still illuminated the areas of concern.

Of course, the AMA guidelines for color temperatures suggestions are available for all communities. These same guidelines should be taken into consideration when choosing LED light bulbs for your home.

The Evolution of Modern Home Lighting

You now have an understanding of color temperature and how it affects your environment. So what would be the best choices of CT for the spaces in your home? How can you apply the AMA guidelines solutions?

One solution is to use a dimmer switch to adjust the brightness in a room. The dimmer switch is a simple fix but requires an electrician or a competent individual for installation.
The second solution would be to purchase different color temperature light bulbs for each room.

Examples would be Warm White (2700K) for bedrooms and hallways. The Warm White color is comparable to a traditional light bulb.

And Daylight White (3000K-4000K) for kitchens, bathrooms, home offices, and garages. Spaces where you would want your lighting to be bright.

The third is the Philips Hue Starter Kit solution. The definition of HUE is the attribute of color by which it is discernable as red, green, etc. As which is dependent on its dominant wavelength, and independent of intensity or lightness. A color shade, tint, or Pale Hues.
